Josh Kennedy signed Number 9 shirt – Charity Auction

Josh Kennedy signed Number 9 shirt - Charity Auction

This authentic shirt is available at the New Hope Kindergarten fundraiser, and would be a fantastic addition to a collector, enthuesiast or restauranteur. Phone bidding is also something we can organise – the auction will be on the evening of election day, September 7th – ring Harry on 0421436869 to obtain a proxy phone number to call during bidding, or to make any enquiries about the shirt or any other items (ie a framed Geelong 2013 squad photo signed by every player or a mini-football signed by Scott Pendlebury and Brownlow medallist Dane Swan) or any other quesions, such as the exact time of the auction so you know when to call!

Doing it NT Tough

Its been a difficult sort of week.  Since the  beginning of the year the rains have refused to arrive, and up until 2 nights ago we did not have much around us.  It still has not rained, however the south of Elcho, Yiringa, Graham Island have all had heavy rains – most of which we could see yesterday….nothing worse than hanging out for rain and getting electrical storms all night 2 nights in a row then watching it rain just on a kilometre away!? Ah well – today, perhaps.  This would be good, since we are now condemned to sit without water all night then power all day until 11pm (I am hoping for closer to 5 pm and if it were up to me I’d knock out the generator at night and have power in the days for outside fans and inside A/C but this is the only house with A/C so I guess I should count my blessings!).

The midgees are hell.  There is no other way to describe it.  They are actually intelligent, I am sure!  I got to have some sort of a luptin/shower last night and in the brief moment it took to get from my shorts to the shower I was hit on the hip and the bum.  This after I’d been hit twice already yesterday, mutliple times each.  I know (well I have heard) that if you do not scratch the bites (or, apparantly, the sites where they have urinated acidic wee onto you) then you do not get massive brown marks where they attacked, but either way I get a massive allergic reaction to them – each varying in size and intensity but each bad enough to bother me for half an hour to the point where I cannot concentrate on or do anything else besides either itch it, or pace up and down saying grr, which is hard to do.  Last night after all that I finally crashed, but left my light on and a sandfly got in and got me a beauty on the neck or shoulder – I was in DEEP sleep but for half an hour, I was awake and up and down etc – lucky I was so tired I went back to sleep till today and woke up with a slight headache but feeling ok.

I woke up with a slight headache on Monday – that was ok, I was out and about and happy (and the only person in Gawa with ngaryli/smokes so many visits/requests but bidi maynmak/all good).  The doctor came to Gawa (they come 3 times a month) and hey, they should have the pills in case I get a migraine…..nope, the pills had been lifted or mixed up (imogran sounds a bit like immocren or whatever that medication for the runs is – imagine if you have a migraine and they give you laxatives – arghh!) anyway of course I was very gracious and said hopefully I wont get another migraine dont order any more I will be gone in 8 days and then promptly copped a 2 day migraine, chucked up everything I’d eaten for the last day and was completely immobile for the duration….only coming out a couple of times at night to get my ass handed to me by the midgees!

I was so glad at about 1am yesterday when I suddenly felt hungry.  I boiled some water to make my only packet of noodles up and was scooped by someone getting up for water in the middle of the night, who, without a torch, thought they would pour a cup of water out of the only saucepan used for water (no kettle) rather than walking to the tank.  So I walked past the pigs and cane toads and whatever else and re-did it.  Bidi.  Up here you can’t let little things bother you.   Anyway it was great to eat.  In the morning I felt even better and the kids took the film crew that had been here while I was sick to feed the ducks or something, and came back screaming about a witich/rainbow snake.  We went down and Colin slowly pulled the ducks out of the cage, and Ngallarra took a regurgitated black (previously white) duck into the jungle.  The bapi had spewed the duck up in order to get out of the cage but had run out of time.  After a bit of excitement and several strikes to the head with blunt object and a few snaps at mainly Colin the snake was dead and duckiducks safe (for now at least!).

I needed to do a bit of shopping and Colin had to pick up the shopping from the barge so we went down to Galiwink’u in the troopie.  I thought it was just the 2 of us but then Gunderoy jumped in.  In the front.  And we picked up his grandfather.  I was looking forward to a ride in the front but it ended up being a shocker trip and a worse day – its a sqeeze because it is basically Colin and the divider taking up half the front and us to the other.  Still, probably better than being in the back for a couple of reasons, which I won’t put down.   After we got to town we went to the barge and waited.  I went to the doctor and back to the barge with Ramano and waited.  I had a chat with Damon.  Saw the little wallaby that Tim’s wife Belinda and her kids had – everyone was waiting down there.  Nowhere to sit except the car, and the side I was on was copping too much sun and its the worst place on the island for midgees….slowly burning.  Went to pick up the mail….and copped a whole troopie full of Lara’s boxes.  Colin tried not to take it but they brought it all out and locked the gate.  Went back to the barge and waited and waited and ALL DAY.  5 cans of drink at $2.80.  Half a pack of $23 smokes that I didn’t even want.  Then it was done.  We got one box of apple juice but the $200 Coles order was either lost by Perkins or went to ALPA or Tukkerina or was most likely just stolen by someone during one of the 3 visits to town while they were unloading.  And the whole day was really sucky because we left really early because Gutha wanted the generator to run for the guest (who were out fishing anyway) and we wanted to get back around lunchtime to turn it off – now its 9 in the morning, and the power will be on for a few hours each night, because Colin cant sleep without A/C…..ARGH – yup, here it is, the sun hitting the louvres – its gonna be a stinker, no rain on the radar, all missing us….oh yeah.

Then, we went to pick up Gunderoy and somehow squeeze in the old man, but then found out that Makuyuk & Ngalarra Baker had come into town with the NITV crew (that Gutha almost had, too, thank God she didn’t) and that the old man had an extra 2 kids, as well as having to take Wundang back to Gawa due to Dungenbar getting sick and flying to Darwin.  Somehow, I don’t know how, they all fit in except little Ngalarra.

You have to count your blessings – at least I was only stuck in the front with Moree/Gundero/Balanor rather than in the back!!!

Gawa trick shots of full moon

Okay – its 3am on my birthday and thanks to the wonders of technology i just got had a chat with Jod on the other side of the world in the big apple.   Oh – now it’s actually 3:26!?  Today we are driving to Galiwink’u for sugar.  And milk.  To make a bithday cake?  Nah – we are going out of necessity as we are low on nearly everything.  And now I am low on sleep as well 😦  These shots may seem a bit boring all squished together like this – but hopefully you can make out the letters spelling “Gawa” at least….it is not actually an easy thing to do, spell with the moon on a long exposure.  But I reckon they’re cool.  I also have a lot more uploaded photos to go into the slideshow, however it looks like the only thing to do there is delete it and begin again, and I’m not having any of that!   The boys have been huntin like banshees these past few days (also jingeralla, guminyarra, gurrorru & my wawa from another mother lati) bringing a turtle in which I helped prepare (as a dental nurse helps a dentist lol) and little sharks and 3 different types of stingray – possibly the best one being the leapard printed “Bambi”.  SO we’ve been eating bambi.  Actually I have decided that, like Spider Jerusalem, I just *love* eating endangered species.  MMMMM – protected meat, forbidden seafood urgh!!  Well – I am going to post this, and then do another post with my NYE pics, and some from Sal.
